Proverbs 3
1My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my
commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall
they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about
thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the
sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not
unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct
thy paths.
As the
Father, God reminds us not to forget his laws and commandments. To ensure the most
extended, most peaceful life one can have. It is an admonition for a life with
a minimum of strife and problems. Please do not turn away from mercy and truth
to keep them close to you and memorize them for instant recall. Trust God with
all your heart entirely, and at all times, even at those times, it seems that
following those truths may not appear profitable or correct; trust that
following God’s laws are valid at all times. Give
God, the credit for the things in your life, and He will give you direction in
that life.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and
depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy
bones.
9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the
firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy
presses shall burst out with new wine.
Do not
think too highly of yourself; respect the Lord and leave evil behind. Give the
honor to God by attending to the needs of God first before taking care of your
personal needs. This is to ensure that the endeavors that one pursues are
successful and plentiful enough to provide for your needs, wants, and desires.
It is suitable for one’s health and the maintenance of the body spiritually and
physically.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither
be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father
the son in whom he delighteth.
When
mistakes are made, do not hate the correction. The only failure is to fail to
learn from a mistake. Those lessons are given to the children that he is
pleased
.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom and the man that
getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the
merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things
thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left-hand
riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths
are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her:
and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by
understanding hath he established the heavens
20 By his knowledge, the depths are broken up, and the
clouds drop down the dew.
A wise man
is happy, for he finds wisdom and understanding. Wisdom has value better than
silver and is more profitable than gold wisdom; her preciousness is more than
jewels; there is nothing comparable to wisdom and her benefits. Wisdom extends the
length of life on the one hand and riches and honors on the other. Following wisdom
will lead to a pleasant life, and the path of wisdom gives peace. The Tree of
life is rooted in wisdom, and a happier person will live when wisdom is kept
close at hand. Wisdom is that thing that created the earth, understand set in
motion the universe. By the knowledge of God, the mountains and the seas were formed,
and the cycle that sustains the world was established.
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep
sound wisdom and discretion:
22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy
neck.
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot
shall not stumble.
24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea,
thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Son, do not
let wisdom depart from your vision; always use sound judgment. It will be life
to you and your soul. You shall travel safely and not trip over the obstacles
that present themselves. Your sleep will be peaceful and quiet, not filled with
stress and fear
25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, nor the desolation of
the wicked when it cometh.
26 For the Lord shall be thy confidence and shall keep
thy foot from being taken.
27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due when it
is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28 Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow
I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
Do not be
paralyzed by fear that comes out of a sudden; neither should you fear the wrath
of the evil when it eventually comes. The Lord will be the confidence you
exude, and it shall keep you safe. Do not withhold goodness to those deserving
of it when it’s up to you and within your power. Please do not turn your
neighbor away when you have the wherewithal at hand; give when you have it
available.
29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he
dwelleth securely by thee.
30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done
thee no harm.
31 Envy thou, not the oppressor, and choose none of his
ways.
32 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his
secret is with the righteous.
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked:
but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace
unto the lowly.
35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the
promotion of fools.
Do not
construct evil plans against your neighbor while at peace with you and relying
on you. Do not contend with anyone without cause, having done you no harm. Do
not think highly of an aggressor; do not adapt his ways or mannerisms. The
Stubborn and obstinate are an abomination to the Lord but are gracious to the
righteous. The people that practice wickedness is accursed: but God blesses the
household of the just. God will scorn those that practice scorn: but grace is
given to the humble The inheritance of
the wise is glory, but shame is the reward for fools.
